Praying Effectively for the Lost

PRAYING FOR SOULS We greatly need someone who can set the saints to this business of praying; and the one who can set the church to praying will be the greatest of reformers and apostles. E.M. Bounds
The greatest vision, the vision of visions is a yearning for prayer warriors. Dick Eastman Money comes the nearest to omnipotence of anything we handle. Power through money depends wholly upon the motive back of the money. Begrudged money, stained money soils the treasury. That which comes nearest to omnipotence also comes nearest to impotence. S.D. Gordon The heart of God hungers to redeem the world. For that He placed in human hands the mightiest of all forces-prayer, that we might become partners with Him….There is no thing we need so much as to learn to pray. S.D.Gordon The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is to pray. It is not the only thing. But is the chief thing….you can do more than pray, after you have prayed. But you can not do more than pray until you have prayed. S.D Gordon God has no greater controversy with His people today than this, that with boundless promises to believing prayer, there are so few who actually give themselves unto intercession A.T. Pierson Revival is the saints of God agonizing on behalf of lost souls going to hell. James A Stewart If sinners be damned,
at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies.
If they will perish let
them perish with our arms about their knees.
Let no one go there UNWARNED
and UNPRAYED for.
Charles Spurgeon Whether we like it or not, asking is the rule
of the Kingdom. If you may have
everything by asking in His name and nothing without asking, I beg you to see
how absolutely vital prayer is.
Charles Spurgeon Where there is no vision of ETERNITY, there is no prayer for the perishing. David Smithers I would rather train 20 men to pray that 1000 to preach. H. MacGregor The shortest route to the man next door is by way of God’s throne. A.T. Pierson EVERYTHING vital
to the success of the world’s evangelization hinges on prayer. John
R Mott There is nothing in the world or the church, except
its disobedience, to render the evangelization of the world in this generation
impossible. Robert
E Speer It is possible to evangelize the world in this generation, if
the church will but do her duty. The
trouble is NOT with the heathen.
A dead church will prevent it, if it is prevented.
John Griffeth This generation
of Christians is responsible for
this generation of souls on the
earth. Keith
Green Intercessory prayer is the Christian’s most effective
weapon. Nothing
can withstand its power. It will do
things when all else has failed. And
the marvel is that we turn to other agencies in order to accomplish what only
prayer can bring to pass. God has
placed this mighty weapon in our hands, and He
expects us to use it. How
disappointed He must be when we lay aside and substitute natural means for supernatural work.
Oswald J. Smith The Son of God had five
thousand when He was feeding them with the loaves and fishes,
He had a multitude when He was
opening the eyes of the blind, but when He was sweating the death sweat for a
lost world, He was alone.
Charles Stalker A secularized or self-centered church can
never evangelize the world. John R
Mott The evangelization of the world in this generation depends
first of all upon a revival of prayer.
Deeper than the need for men, deeper than the need for money; aye, deep
down at the bottom of your spiritless life is the need for the forgotten
secret of prevailing, world-wide prayer.
Robert E Speer If “all things are possible to him that believeth,”
then all things are possible to him
that prayeth. E.M. Bounds Prayer moves the hand that
moves the world. E.M. Bounds Since the time of the founding of the church, there is NOTHING
God does on earth without the prayer
of His children. Watchman Nee We have only one weapon. It is not preaching, teaching, singing, or organizing; it is the Word of God brought against Satan’s lies through prayer. Charles Stanley If we don’t pray, we serve no purpose in God’s framework of eternity.
Charles Stanley There is reason to believe that millions are in hell because professors have not offered the prayer
of faith. When they had promises
under their eye, they have not had faith enough to use them…You say; “this
leaves the church under a great load of
guilt.” True, it does so; and
no doubt multitudes will
stand up before God, covered all over with the blood
of souls that have been lost through
their want of faith. Charles G. Finney My own
conversion is the result of prayer;
long, affectionate, earnest, and importunate.
Parents prayed for me; God
heard their cries, and here I am to preach the Gospel.
Charles H. Spurgeon Perhaps there are no
conversions in our churches because we have not seen how impossible it is for the non-Christian mind to believe.
It is only when God opens
their hearts to understand the message of Christ that they can accept Him.
Hearts will be made receptive
only as we pray. Sammy
Tippit Hearts are prepared to receive the message of Christ
through prayer. The gospel is
eternal and spiritual in nature. Man
in his natural, fallen state cannot
comprehend such a message; it is foreign to his natural state of being.
Therefore, we must pray that their spiritual eyes be opened.
Sammy Tippit God alone can save the world, but God cannot save the world
alone. God and man unite for the
task, the response of the divine being invariably in proportion to the desire
and the effort of the human. This
cooperation, then, being necessary, what is the duty which we, as co-workers
with God, are required to undertake? First
of all, and most important of all - the point which we desire particularly to
emphasize – we must give ourselves to prayer.
E.M. Bounds Around us is a world lost in sin, above is a God willing
and able to save; it is ours to build the bridge that links heaven and earth,
and prayer is the mighty instrument that does the work.
E.M. Bounds Some have zealously used truth to convert men, and laid
very little stress on prayer. They
have preached, and talked, and distributed tracts with great zeal, and then
wondered that they had so little success. And
the reason was that they forgot to use the other branch of the
means, effectual prayer. They
overlooked the fact that truth, by itself, will never produce the effect,
without the Spirit of God, and that the Spirit is given in answer to prayer. Charles
Finney Sometimes it happens that those who are the most engaged in
employing truth are not the most engaged in prayer.
This is always unhappy. For
unless they have the spirit of prayer (or unless some one else has), the truth
by itself, will do nothing but harden men in impenitence.
Probably in the Day of Judgment it will be found that nothing is ever
done by the truth, used ever so zealously, unless here is a spirit of prayer
somewhere in connection with the presentation of truth.
Charles Finney Others err in the reverse direction.
Not that they lay too much stress on prayer.
But they overlook the fact that prayer might be offered for ever, by
itself, and nothing would be done. Because
sinners are not converted by direct contact of the Holy Ghost, but by the truth,
employed as a means. To expect the
conversion of sinners by prayer alone, without the employment of truth, is to
tempt God. Charles
